HMV High Street Rip Off Continues TIP Buy Online!
Wednesday, December 30th, 2009Yes the HMV price mismatches carry on with items on the high street being significantly more expensive than those on their online store.
An interesting example is the Torvill and Dean Dancing on Ice: Bolero 25th Anniversary Tour DVD. This DVD was retailing at £12.99 online a few days ago but is now just £6.99. In the High Street, however, it is a different story. At one HMV store in Peterborough they had one copy priced at £10 and at the bigger store they had many copies which were all priced at £15.99. click here to see item online.
Our next example is the old family favourite The Muppets Christmas Carol. In HMV on the High Street the price was just £5 for this DVD whereas you can pick it up online with free delivery for £3.99. That’s a 25% increase in the store price to the online price. click here to check the online price
Next up are two CDs from Biffy Clyro. The latest album Only Revolutions is available for £7 in HMV stores but you can get it for £5.99 online and don’t think that HMV can’t rip you off in the store on sale items either. The previous album Puzzle is £6 in the stores but you can get it in the 2 for £10 offer so provided you want 2 CDs you can pick it up for a fiver. HMV online have it for £3.99 with free delivery so that means if you just want the one album you will pay 50% more in the HMV on the High Street!
Finally the last album I looked at today was by Dream Theater and it was called Black Clouds and Silver Linings. This was a 3 disc special edition with the album, instrumental versions of the album tracks and 6 covers on another disc. In store this was £21 whilst on the HMV website the price is just £12.99. Thats an £8 saving online and means that you pay over 60% more in the store than you would online. click here to check online price
The only things I can possible recommend you look at in stores are CD albums that may be sold at deep discounts prices of just £3. Jeff Buckleys album Grace can be picked up for £3 in the store but it is almost a fiver online.
All in all therefore it is possible to make massive savings with HMV by just buying online rather than in store. If you like to browse then go to the store and make a list of the items you would like and then check the prices on your mobile phone browser whilst you’re there.
